About
The Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry section at the College of Agriculture, Pune has its origin as Agricultural Chemistry Section which was established in the year 1905. Prof.A.A. Maggit was the first Agricultural Chemist to the Government of Bombay.
Mandate:
The Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry section at the College of Agriculture, Pune has been entrusted with the major responsibility of teaching, research and extension in the field of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry

To offer courses in the discipline of Soil Science and Agril. Chemistry for the undergraduate degree programme in Agriculture and Horticulture (B.Sc Agri./B.Sc.Horti.)

To offer post graduate courses in the discipline of Soil Science and Agril. Chemistry. (M.Sc.Agri.)

To undertake fundamental and applied research programmes through the post-graduate students in the field of Soil Science and Agril. Chemistry.

To develop appropriate soil-based technologies to solve the root level problems of farmers.

To exchange information with other scientist and extension staff in the field of Soil Science and Agril. Chemistry. through training programmes, group discussions, seminars, symposium, workshops and through scientific, technical and extension publications.

To provide advisory service to the government and non-government organizations through the analysis of soil, plant, irrigation water and manures along with technical remarks and recommendations. Also to render technical advice to the farmers on specific problems related to soil, plant and irrigation water.

To participate in extension activities organized by the university, college and state department of Agriculture.

To collaborate with national, international and other research institutes, organizations, universities, fertilizer, pesticide and sugar industries for undertaking collaborative research projects.
